The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs(MLTM) reported that the container traffic of whole Korean ports in Feb. recorded 1.64 million TEUs, which is up 12.4%(up 8.4% for total until Feb.) from the same month previous year.

Export/import cargoes marked 1,029,000 TEUs, transshipment cargoes 575,000 TEUs and coastal cargoes 38,000 TEUs.

The traffic hit an all time high as that of Feb. According to the analysis, it was affected by the rise in working days compared to the same month previous year, steady increase in transshipment cargoes and a switch to upturn in export/import traffic etc.

The port of Busan recorded 1,240,000 TEUs, which is up 13.8% along with steady rise in transshipment cargoes to China(11.0%↑) and the increase in trade volume with European region(24.3%↑).

Particularly transshipment cargoes showed up 2 digit growth rate for consecutive 12 months since Mar. 2011 owing to its web-like feeder network and cost competitiveness as well as external factors such as the rise in the price of bunker C oil.

The port of Gwangyang and the port of Inchon also showed traffic increase respectively up 2.2% and 11.3% affected by the rise in working days and increase in export/import cargoes with main trading partners.
