It is expected that the increase in passengers and cargoes using Pyeongtaek passenger terminal will speed up.

Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation(GPPC) held a presentation meeting to explain the port's current status, vision and development plans to the delegation from the municipality and port of Rizhao, China on 13th August.

The delegation's visit was to come up with some ideas to increase passengers and cargoes on the route between Pyeongtaek and Rizhao. GPPC gave them an intensive explanation about investment conditions, development plans and dock facilities of the port.

Mr. Choi Hong Chul, a CEO of GPPC, stressed "I am sure Pyeongtaek is the most competitive port in terms of handling export/import cargoes to/from China. The port is located near the capital area and has some advantages of logistics activities based on the industrial complexes in the hinterland."

He continued "Not only cargoes but a number of passengers coming through car-ferry boat has been on the increase. Accordingly we are going to complement insufficient supporting facilities."

Mr. Jang, a head of the delegation from Rizhao, also commented "We have further demand for car-ferry operation on this route, nonetheless there is a limit to increase the traffic because of narrow facilities at the passenger terminal. We hope to see a new international passenger wharf that will meet the demand."

During the first half of this year, 263,463 passengers used car-ferry boat in/out of the port, 62,634 of whom were on Pyeongtaek-Rizhao route. It showed increase by 38% from the same period last year.
