Hyundai Merchant Marine(HMM) is actively driving environment-friendly management. The company recently received a certificate from Korean Register(KR) that verifies greenhouse gas inventories as to all the vessels, terminals and even offices operated by HMM.
As a result, total quantity of greenhouse gas emitted in 2011 was 7.41 million ton CO2-eq(equivalent emission), which decreased by 6.5% compared to the previous year of 7.93 million, Hyundai said.
HMM submitted such a record verified by KR to CCWG(Clean Cargo Working Group), an affiliated organization of BSR(Business for Social Responsibility), an international NGO. The company is also thinking about CSI(Clean Shipping Index) verification implemented by North European shipper's organization.
HMM's those activities are in line with global shippers and ports' increasing interest in environment. The company's policy is to be prepared for customer's elevated environmental requirements through practice of green management.
Mr. Suk Hui Lee, a CEO of HMM, emphasized "We have to deal with environmental issues as part of corporate strategy beyond passive response to the related regulations."
