Dr. Oh Kong Gyun, a chairman of Korean Register of Shipping(KR) was appointed as a director of the World Maritime University(WMU) as of 30th April.
He is known to have exceptional passion and thirst for training human resources as shown in awarding a scholarship to university students at home and abroad every year aimed at nurturing experts for the future maritime industry.
Dr. Oh, who will act as a director for the next couple of years, said "I am honored to take on the role of director at WMU, which is a cradle of the talents leading world maritime industry. I'll make a contribution to the maritime industry by concentrating on development of skilled manpower on the belief that quality education is the best investment."
World Maritime University is a specialized maritime training institute with the master's degree. It was established in 1983 in Malmo, Sweden under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations.
WMU has produced about 2,700 graduates from 157 countries so far and the alumni have been playing a pivotal role at international organizations and in the maritime fields.
